Access to hygiene education for disadvantaged girls during periods of menstruation

The injustice I want to tackle is lack of health care access for marginalized people .

Nuestra Idea Compasiva

Para resolver la injusticia de lack of health care access for marginalized people .
Abordaremos the lack of a guardian to supervise these girls in the management of their hygiene during menstruation and the lack of financial means to buy sanitary napkins.
A través de #training 25 girls to manage their hygiene during periods of menstruation; #training these 25 girls in the manufacture of reusable sanitary napkins; #creating 1 menstrual hygiene ambassador's club.

Nuestro plan:

  • #Training 25 girls in menstrual hygiene ans napkins manufacturing for their health during menstrual periods

Aumentaremos mi / nuestra compasión por medio de...

#Involving local leaders #hearing beneficiary

¿Cómo mostrarás coraje (valentía)?

#Going to beneficiaries #discussing with elders to sensitize them in order for them to be defender for the girls rights

¿Cómo colaborarán con otros/as?

#Collaborate with Health students association #Young African Leaders Alumni #Burkina Faso Peace First Alumni

#pre/post survey #Number of girls using hygienic napkins #number of parents involved to mentor the girls

Pasos clave

  • #preparatory mission #2 training sessions # Follow up training

This project allowed my team to come into direct contact with the reality of young girls. In addition, this project also made it possible to understand not only the problem but also to see to what extent they were unaware of many things Solving this problem was a way to better identify the injustice that is often not perceived by those around us.

At the end of the project the participants and some parents were happy with the training they’ve received. The girls will now attend classes or activities even during their menstruation. For they can now manufacture napkins for their own use and parents can see new habits of their daughters!

My team learned more from the testimonies of the participants in the training. Each girl experienced this injustice in a different way.

¿Qué aprendió tu equipo?

We have learned that many girls have bad methods during their mentrues. For example, some girls who do not want to stain their clothes wear several panties and keep their sanitary napkins on them for a long time. However, the towel must be changed every 4 to 6 hours.

¿Qué desafíos superó tu equipo?

Our team has broken the ignorance about how to use sanitary napkins. So the girls decided to always have one more towel to exchange when it’s the moment.

In carrying out the project, I contacted leaders in this field who were willing to join me. Then the distribution of tasks was done according to everyone's skills.

I advise anyone starting a peacemaking project to take all the steps seriously. From the development of the project to its completion. One must never give up no matter what the outcome of the project, one must believe in s/he/ they abilities and not hesitate to take advice.

The last thing to do before the beginning of the training is the confirmation with the girls and trainers on the training days.
We had met the students to explain the plan of the training so that they can integrate it into their program.
