Bullying affects students everywhere, and peer education can fix it.
A Peacemaking Project by Fish S.
What is the injustice we are solving?
Bullying is a public health epidemic that affects millions of kids around the world, but we keep responding with the same old, tired solutions. Peer-to-peer education can change attitudes and behaviors to make schools safe and accepting for all.
Our Compassionate Solution:
To solve this injustice of bullying in schools
we will address intolerance and prejudice
by creating peer education programs
Our Project Plan:
- To fight intolerance and injustice in American schools
- To provide students with the tools they need to improve their communities
We will increase my / our compassion by...
We will increase our compassion by reaching out to students and schools in communities that are facing the most difficult challenges. We will connect with the students whose lives we are empowering by giving them feedback and reflections on our own experiences growing up.
How will you show courage?
Often, we find passionate students who want to promote peacemaking in their schools, but face roadblocks from their school administration and from their peers. This is not an easy thing to deal with, but we will remain supportive of the students with whom we are in contact.
How will you collaborate with others?
Within our team, we will regularly communicate with each other to make sure that our goals align. When it comes to the students with which we will be working, we will be vigilant in making sure that we listen to their needs so that we can better serve them.
How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)
Our pre- and post-tests will serve as the physical evidence of our success. When students are able to better articulate the root causes of injustice and intolerance in their communities and generate steps they can take towards the promotion of peace, we will consider that to be the greatest reward.
- Establish "care packages" with materials, gear, and motivational notes to send to our schools
- Begin a massive outreach effort to local schools in order to recruit new Peace Teams
- Articulate what our goals for the next few years are going to be
