Community Support and Resources for Women with PTSD

A Peacemaking Project by Jessica W.

What is the injustice we are solving?

- Women are increasingly facing domestic violence, and abuse of all forms. - Abuse sometimes starts from early childhood, and can continue to affect a developing girl's life well into adulthood. - These women and girls can experience PTSD, which can have a huge impact on their lives and wellbeing. - More resources and community support is needed for these women. The following are aims of this project: 1. Raise awareness of PTSD, and that PTSD can occur to anyone, due to any form of violence or abuse (including girls and women). 2. Provide a point of support, education, and external resources regarding living with PTSD, aimed towards women. 3. Raise funds to help fund women of low socioeconomic backgrounds, or in financial need, to access support resources where cost is a barrier.

Hi Jessica, thank you so much for sharing your project idea! We are very glad to see projects from Australia.

As part of the process of completing peacemaking projects, Peace First staff give formal feedback on important steps of the project. One of those steps is the compassionate insight.

The injustice that you are trying to solve is domestic violence towards women, right? I would encourage you to write your compassionate insight so that other Peace First members would understand your injustice.

We would encourage everyone who is at this stage of their project to work towards deepening their understanding of the injustice they are focusing on. It would be great to talk to other people in your community and try to understand their perspective of it or other people who are trying to solve the same justice or/and people who are already working to solve this injustice.

Something that would be helpful to craft/ discover the root causes and consequences of your chosen injustice are to use the problem and solution tree to discover the root causes and it will guide you to more solution. Here are some resources on how to do that:

Please let us know how can we help.

Hello Jessica, I am really interested to read about what you have done for this injustice. I am sure there are many Peace First members who are eager to learn from your project because the activities you are implementing might be applicable to another community context. Please share with us and let me know how I can support!

Hi Jessica -- thanks for sharing this important work you do with us. This is such a critical injustice, and we're glad you're taking it on. It's especially good that you note it affects lower-income women differently since they have a harder time accessing resources.

How can we help? Which of your three goals are you most focused on at the moment?
