Economic and social empowerment of marginalized young girls and women
A Peacemaking Project by Tatenda M.
What is the injustice we are solving?
In Zimbabwe especially in Masvingo province there is a high rate of gender based violence especially on young girls and women. There is no equal educational opportunities, girls and women are regarded as second class citizens, there is no justice of rape perpetrators. In some religious groups girls are married at the age of 14 to a 50 year old man. Some are being exchanged with food hampers, hence i and the organisation we are working with, 'Girl Child Empowerment of Zimbabwe', we are against such acts as it derprives young girls their right of choice and to fulfill their full potential.
Our Compassionate Solution:
To solve this injustice of Gender based violence, forced marriages and equity my target being young girls and women
we will address Relaxation and poor implementation of laws and policies which empower young girls and women, especially marginalized.
by i would like to lobby and advocate for the full recognition of young girls and women, equal educational opportunities and that women rights are human rights. i am going to do peer to peer training in marginalises area with the help of our organisation

As part of the process of completing peacemaking projects, Peace First staff give formal feedback on important steps of the project. One of those steps is the compassionate insight.
I have noticed that at the beginning you raised two injustices; the Gender-Based Violence (Rape issue) and the Gender Equality (unequal access to education for women and girls). Then, you focused in your compassionate insight on the gender-based violence with a main focus on the Child Marriage issue! Therefore, I would encourage you to spend some time to work towards deepening your understanding of this issue, by: (1) talking to other people in your community to get their perspective and (2) using the Problem-Solution Tree to discover the root causes and consequences of your chosen injustice, and it will guide you to more solutions. Here are some resources on how to do that: https://www.peacefirst.org/understand-through-compassion
Please make sure to re-write your compassionate insight and make it as clear as you can so other Peace First members would understand it better.
Thanks again for sharing your project with Peace First members, and we are looking forward to your next steps of the project!
Please let us know how can we help.
