THE GOLD IN YOU SENSIZITIZATION TOUR
A Peacemaking Project by Precious A.
What is the injustice we are solving?
Student are often told in my community to embrace their academic solely in order to grab the best kind of life in the society. This has made many student frustrated as they struggle daily with their passion and talents in order to strike a balance. The realities of the daily motivation that school is the only way to poverty is very erroneous as a large class of people this same student see as role models are not in the highest form schooled. I believe, it is an injustice to tell the younger generation a half trust without showing them the both side of the coin and to encourage their creative juice to think deep.
Our Compassionate Solution:
To solve this injustice of The GOLD IN YOU sensitization tour is aimed at solving the need of motivation among young people in the use of their talents.
we will address poor orientation about their talent and poor reading culture as well as lackadaisical attitude to personal development.
by organizing a sensitization training programme across secondary schools as well as setting up talent clubs across these schools.
Our Project Plan:
- PROJECT GOLD IN YOU: 1. Reach out to 150 students in secondary schools around me 2. Expose them to a two days training session 3. Help each students discover their talents 4. Give them mentorship around their talents 5. Make education interesting for young people as they deploy their talents in learning.
We will increase my / our compassion by...
We will increase our compassion by telling the students our unique story especially my unique story.
How will you show courage?
I will have to reproach their schools and synergize with their authorities. I will also set up meetings with the highest school authorities to deliberate on better ways to harness the talents of their students.
How will you collaborate with others?
I will form great synergy with people. First, i will form a three man team who will join me head to head in these. I will also collaborate with the secondary schools authorities as they provide their students for the training and also through the face of mentorship. I will also form synergy with higher bodies, like GARDEN CITY LIBRARY which will help in training facilitation. The names of the secondary schools situated in Port Harcourt that i would be collaborating with are; 1. Bensona International School 2. Greenfield Academy 3. Iverok International Group of schools
How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)
1. Once schools open their doors to us to train their students 2. Once training has taken place in the schools and the talent clubs is formed. 3. the students are given a test to ascertain the relevance of the training to them. 4. Mentorship phase has started and amazing talents is harnessed in their environment. 5. Each talent joins us in inspiring other students in doing the same thing to their fellow students.

How did the project deepen your team's understanding of the injustice?
The tour was held and it was indeed momentous especially on seeing new challenges emerge especially from team mates and the schools administration. However, via mentorship we were able to overcome the hurdles.
How did your community change as a result of your project?
Lots of students especially from the government schools made a commitment for change and the both school we visited recorded one of the most impactful and leadership session on their students as most of the students from the training went on to pioneer initiative to make learning better for their peers.
How many people were impacted by your project?
Explain how you came up with the number of people impacted by the project?
Each of the schools filled our assessment form immediately after the session and they told us about how impactful the program was and they imputed the numbers of students they met in the hall immediately after the training.
How did your team learn more about the people affected by the injustice?
We got lots of questions from the young minds as they poured their heart to us especially youngsters from the government schools.
What did your team learn?
We learnt the power of patience and compassion on dealing with the students and administration. We really can't challenge someone we don't love and are patient with.
What challenges did your team overcome?
We overcame the challenges of failure especially on having two schools turn down our sensitization workshop for their schools. We overcame the challenges of withdrawing as it took a great pull of time for the government school to approve our coming. We overcame the challenges of most students turning down the offer to participate in our workshop. We overcame the challenges of rainfall during all of our workshop session as it cost us financially also to factor for inadequacy especially from team mates. We overcame the challenges of giving up as I had to encourage the team some and we prayed to find courage to continue and indeed we got.
How have you involved others in designing, carrying out, or expanding this project?
Yes, I did involved and it was really inspiring involving 2 creatives persons.
What advice would you give to someone starting a peacemaking project?
Always maintain your compassion for the injustice you are trying to solve and you cannot really change something or someone you do not give due compassion and patience.
