Civic Engagement

Civic engagement is the ways in which citizens participate in a community in order to improve conditions for others or to help shape the community’s future. Unfortunately, not everyone is included in decision making - sometimes people who are most impacted by an issue are excluded. Think about women not having the right to vote - in that case, 50% of the population was not able to vote on issues impacting them. And issues like that persist all over the world.

What can you do as a peacemaker? You can make sure decision making in your community, school, or local government is inclusive, responsive, and representative of all people. If you see a law or policy that is discriminatory, find ways to bring attention to this issue and work to change it.
