A person’s level and quality of education affects their long-term quality of life. To ensure everyone has an equal opportunity for a high quality education, two things must be true. First, the education system must be fair, which means external factors should not interfere with someone’s potential for academic success. Second, the system must be inclusive, meaning the same standard applies to everyone. These two factors are closely related and dependent on each other; therefore, an academic system that practices educational equity provides a strong foundation for a thriving society.

What can you do as a peacemaker? It’s important to understand the underlying root causes for why things are the way they are in order to change them. Think about your own academic environment. Does it seem fair and inclusive? If not, why is that, and what can you do to improve things?
