Injustice - Importance
This is affecting everyone. Animals, plants, and people. The environment has always helped us and we need to help it.
Injustice - Who Affected
This affects everyone from animals to people to, of course, nature.
Injustice - How Affected
It rids animals of their homes and lessens the resources we have for living our daily lives. It also greatly affects the plants themselves because they are being neglected and mistreated.
Injustice - Who Causes
Big companies cause a lot of pollution but everyday people also cause pollution. Singular people just don’t have as big of an affect at one time as large factories/companies.
Injustice - Why
Most people don’t know much better and don’t pay any mind to how their actions affect everyone. If they were more informed I believe they would be more mindful of their actions.
Initial Problem Statement
The Earth is not treated correctly and we need to help avoid issues like climate change, global warming, and pollution.
Interview - Who
I interviewed friends and family from all walks of life.
Interview - How They Feel
They were very angry and scared for what is happening to the planet and the affects it will have.
Interview - How Affected
We all live on planet Earth and if the planet is dying everyone and everything on it will be majorly affected.
Interview - Why They Feel That Way
Because they want to see the Earth and everyone on it survive and thrive.
Interview - How Involved
By raising awareness and donating money to causes. Also by helping reduce pollution.
Root Cause
The root cause is the lack of mindfulness when it comes to the environment. Also the lack of caring for the Earth is a big cause for the struggles we’re facing today.
Compassionate Insight - Injustice
waste in our communities and our bodies of water
Compassionate Insight - Address
the lack of mindfulness and caring of the environment
Compassionate Insight - Action
raising awareness and helping our community get rid of pollution by going to big lakes and rivers to pick up garbage

Hi Emily!

My name is Jenna and I'm a member of the Peace First team. I want to provide you with some feedback on your Compassionate Insight. We encourage you to use this feedback as you continue to progress through your peacemaking journey. If you apply for a mini-grant, your Compassionate Insight will be one of the things we consider, so you are welcome to use this feedback to strengthen your Compassionate Insight before that stage in the process.

Strengths: I love that your project seeks to help reduce waste in order to protect the environment and reduce the negative effects humans have on our planet! I really like that your project addresses that the amount of waste that is from humans and that we need to work to prevent more waste. Additionally, I like that you included how many detrimental effects pollution and climate change have not only on humans, but every living thing on our planet. I appreciate that you identified how complicated this issue is by interviewing a variety of people. It is really helpful to see how the community reacts to this and how it has become an accepted part of society.

Things to consider: Your project looks great, please do not think these questions/comments mean your project isn’t awesome! I would encourage you to dig deeper into the injustice. It is great that you have ideas about how to reduce waste, but I would appreciate if you could explain more about what exactly do you want to do. What way do you want to get involved in helping the environment? Climate change has a lot of different elements, so it would be helpful to pick one thing such as plastic waste or animal agriculture to focus on. Who do you want to be involved in your project and how do you plan on getting them involved? Additionally, I encourage you to think deeper about the root cause of this injustice. How has our planet ended up like this? How has money influenced government action on climate change?

These resources might help you dig deeper and learn more about some of the suggestions I made:

We're happy to help if you have questions. We are so excited to see how this project develops! I hope this feedback has been useful! Please let us know how we can support this important work. Thanks again, and I'm excited to see where this project goes!

Hi Emily!

It is wonderful that you've submitted your Plan! I'm so excited about your work to spread awareness and help clean up the waterways in your community and it is great to hear a bit more -- thank you for all you are doing!

We Reviewed your Project Plan and at this point we are not able to move it forward to submit a budget for a Mini-Grant. However, don’t give up! We provided you with some feedback on your Plan so that you can revise your project plan and re-submit it. We look forward to supporting your project with a grant, soon!

Feedback:

The project plan did a great job of:
Identifying your larger goals and what you are trying to achieve through your project! You know that you want to reduce pollution in your local lakes and rivers, AND raise awareness -- I love that you are focused on both of these things, because by raising awareness you can help PREVENT future pollution in the lakes and rivers while also helping to respond the pollution that is currently there. That's wonderful!

The project can be strengthened by (please make these changes in the revised application):
-Overall, your plan just needs to be a bit more specific so that we can understand what you are planning to do. I know from your insight that you want to clean up your local water ways -- which is a great start! However, the Plan should help us understand HOW you will do that.
I really recommend using the SMART goals tool to help you add some Goals that are specific to this particular project (to go along with your longer term goals). What specific goals can you have for your project that you can accomplish in the next 3 months?
Check out the tool here: https://www.peacefirst.org/resource/plan-1-smart-goals

-Please also add in some more details to your "Steps" -- right now you'e listed "Plan" as a Step -- we are inviting you to do that planning work now and add that into this Plan so that we can understand your project. That means the Steps will show the plans that you come up with when you do the planning. Can you also share more details about the Necessary items?

I encourage you to utilize our Plan tools to help you with this -- they will guide you through how to do it step by step! :) https://www.peacefirst.org/plan-your-project

Thank you again for being a peacemaker. We are looking forward to seeing your revised Plan! Let us know how we can support you.

Hi Emily,

Thanks for editing your Plan and adding in a bit more detail.

Congratulations! Your Plan has been approved! This means you can move forward with creating your budget to apply for a mini-grant, if you need one to bring it to life.

As you continue to Plan your project and work on your Mini-Grant, I encourage you to keep working on the details of your Steps. I'd love to hear more about what the "mini projects" are that you are referring to. And how do you plan on recruiting people to participate in the garbage collection activities? Thinking through those details will help with your next steps!

It will be important to get as specific as possible as you plan your budget so you will know where you want to spend the funds -- and to make sure that your Plan and Budget make sense together so that when we review your Mini-Grant application we can understand how you plan to use the funds.

We're excited to hear more! Keep up the amazing work!
