Act Dragonfly

A Peacemaking Project by Emily O.

What is the injustice we are solving?

The separation between different groups of people, the cliques.

Our Compassionate Solution:

To solve this injustice of the separation between different groups of people
we will address stereo types, comfort zones, and cliques
by merging unfamiliar groups together, talking with students from my school to find their ideas to a solution, and creating engaging presentations and assemblies.

Our Project Plan:

Goals

  • Eliminate cliques
  • To solve injustice I will address stereotypes and cliques through presentations and a new school club.

We will increase my / our compassion by...

Listen to peoples’ stories to get to know them better, be more involved in other peoples’ lives. Reach out to “lonely” people to be starting memebers of the school club.

How will you show courage?

Talk with people I normally don’t. Give a presentation about the injustice and the new school club.

How will you collaborate with others?

I will talk to students, teachers, and possibly administrators.

How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)

Ways to measure that the plan is working and the injustice is being solved includes seeing a happier school environment, a welcomingness between students (new and in different grades), seeing more people wanting to join the club.

Key Steps

  • Survey students about the separation
  • Create a presentation for the school about; the injustice, how I plan on solving it, and what the club will be like
  • Gather people to be members of the council
  • Schedule meetings for the club to find more solutions to the current injustice and other possible injustices
  • Implement the solutions that have come up or plan events to solve the problem
  • Keep the club going to solve other injustices students see

Hi Emily,

Welcome to our community! First, I want to ask you if you are here for the CEI Youth Activation Challenge? If so, please select this challenge by clicking "join a challenge" on the right side of your dashboard.

We're so excited that you're joining a movement of young people from across Colorado who are working to solve injustices in their schools. We look forward to supporting the plan you came up with at the Peace First Lab as you work with others to make a lasting difference. This is an opportunity for young people to 'create without boundaries’!

Thank you for deciding to show up and address this important injustice of student separation and stereotyping. I'm glad that you've decided to work on this problem!

As you’re working through the questions in the Understand phase of your project, please don’t hesitate to ask any questions that come up! You can check out the Peacemaking Tools for a full set of resources: https://www.peacefirst.org/peacemaking-tools I also suggest you check out the Colorado Education Initiative tools https://www.coloradoedinitiative.org/tools-resources-new/

If you submitted your Compassionate Insight, perfect! The Compassionate Insight is one of the most important steps in the peacemaking journey. We will be reviewing it in 2-3 business days.

I hope that these resources are useful! This work is so important--Thank you for what you're doing! Let me know if you have any questions or need support in thinking about your next steps. :) I'm excited to support you however possible, and to watch this project grow!

Best,
Adrian
