King of the Teens

A Peacemaking Project by Max R.

What is the injustice we are solving?

Teenagers are often thrown under a negative umbrella, one that portrays the entire age group as ungrateful, self absorbed, and immature. However, there are so many of us who are working to better our communities and be changemakers, whether that be through business, charity, music, etc. Teenagers need a forum to share how they are going against the grain and showcase teenagers that are making an impact.

Our Compassionate Solution:

To solve this injustice of both the underutilization of youth leaders and the undermining of youth changemakers
we will address the need for a mature and accessible forum for teens to share their stories of impact
by creating a podcast that empowers teenagers to go against the grain and make a difference in their communities

Our Project Plan:

  • Share the stories of teen changemakers with the world
  • Create a tangible, sharable, and mature product
  • Empower youth to impact their communities

We will increase my / our compassion by...

sharing the stories of a variety of youth changemakers that are making an impact in their communities and changing the way we view teens as a society.

How will you show courage?

I will show courage by putting myself out there and pressuring myself to challenge the status quo. I am excited to work in an area of expertise I have never explored in depth before and put myself in uncomfortable positions.

How will you collaborate with others?

By default, this is not a project that I can make myself. Through working with people across disciplines I will be able to get insight from people of different people and different backgrounds. I have also been reaching out to people currently in the industry to gain a greater understanding of the medium I am venturing into.

How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)

Peer review! I am not planning release any episodes until I finish my season completely, which gives me ample amount of time to work out kinks and make sure that I am creating the best product possible.

Key Steps

  • Highlight teen changemakers to be featured in episodes
  • Create episode schedule
  • Interview teens/record voiceover/edit and finish episodes
  • Begin releasing episodes in Q2 2018

Congratulations! Your project has been selected to receive a Peace First Challenge mini-grant. We will be in touch soon with details about this payment.

The mini-grant process is also a space for you to get expert feedback on your peacemaking project. We hope you will use this feedback to further strengthen your project. Please see the feedback on your mini-grant below

What a wonderful project! You have done a wonderful job of articulating the injustice and your compassionate insight and have come up with a concrete plan to address a real need to create space to lift up youth voices. I love your podcast idea and it sounds like you are being really intentional as you plan it and doing your research about best practice, which will help ensure it is the type of content that will be widely shared to achieve the impact you are hoping for. I'm so excited to hear the podcasts and we will be very happy to connect you with young changemakers and help spread the word when the podcasts are ready!

Opportunities to strengthen the project further:
I'd encourage you to think a bit more about how you will measure your success. Your peer review idea for your podcasts is fantastic -- how can you leverage the peer review process to find out how the podcast influences those listening to it? How will you keep track of the reach and impact of the podcast once it is released? I also think it will be key to think about how you will get the word out about the podcast and ensure people know about it-- who can you collaborate with to promote the podcast? I'm curious whether you are thinking of other young people as your core audience, or wanting to target adult audiences as well -- whatever you decide, that might alter both your content and how you market it.

Congratulations and best of luck with your project!

Hey Max, great to see your project here. I love the ways in which your theory of change has evolved since we talked! I agree that creating these stories has the chance to change entrenched stereotypes about young people and unleash their power and potential. (As you know, we have similar feelings about storytelling at Peace First!)

We saw you submitted a grant request, and someone from our team will be in touch about that soon. We're excited to support this awesome work.

Is there anyone else we can help with? Maybe connecting you with Fellows/Channel Kindness winners/Challengers to interview?

Hi Max. I loved reading about your project. It sounds like it can be very powerful! Are there any areas where you need support the most? How can we help?
