What is the injustice we are solving?
"Mission Impossible" will consist in a series of actions that fulfill the emotional support and rise in self-esteem needed in society.
Our Compassionate Solution:
To solve this injustice of Lack of emotional support and self-esteem
we will address The lack of awareness and knowledge caused by technology
by Commencing a series of actions that fulfill the emotional support and rise in self-esteem needed in society.
Our Project Plan:
- Series of actions to make my high school campus and community a healthier environment.
We will increase my / our compassion by...
Targeting different groups of people. My intentions will be to recognize those who work hard and those who need a little positivity to keep on moving forward with life. It will involve students, staff members, and members of the community of Ontario.
How will you show courage?
I will talk to people and strangers in order to encourage them to be part of a change that I can not do alone. I do not like to talk to people and I get a bit nervous, so it will improve my social and communication skills in the end.
How will you collaborate with others?
I will collaborate with other students and staff members in order to share my ideas, to gain support, and to make the necessary modications to obtain optimal effiency and productivity that makes a difference in our community.
How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)
I will know that I am moving in the right direction when I see more kindness. When I walk through the halls, I will see compassion, respect, and selflessness aroung individuals. I will also see more consistent smiles and laughter throughout the day. There will be less students in the discipline office, because they know that there are people out there who genuinely want to help.
- Research a postal office and find out how many are employed at that specific location
- Go out and purchase construction paper and crafting paper in order to create thank you cards for postal workers along side with candy that was purchased
- Create cards for staff members at Ontario High School with the same materials who are hardly recognized such as janitors and gardeners.
- Purchase poster paper and paint supplies
- Create posters with inspirational quotes and hang them all around campus with the approval of the principal
- Raise the self esteem of underclassmen by encouraging them to begin a fashion club on campus that will be sponsored by FIDM.
- Target bikers by purchasing at least one hand pump and placing it in the bike rack for anyone to use if they have a flat tire.
- Buy at least 1000sheets of lined paper and do an activity in the gym that involves and encourages all students to be supportive of each other and to help endure their problems and where they can express themselves.

I love that your project is grounded in compassion and wanting to ensure that every person has self-esteem and emotional support. What I see in your project is a real potential to help build a sense of community and connection in today's world -- and that is so important! I also think each of your ideas are great concrete actions that can help people feel more connected as a community -- and love the creativity of some of your ideas! I especially love that you are trying to honor people who are not as recognized as other groups -- such as janitors and gardeners.

The most important thing to strengthen is what your compassionate insight and how you describe the "injustice" you are working on. To be a peacemaking project, your project needs to address a core injustice. You've listed the injustice as "Lack of emotional support and self-esteem." At Peace First, we define an injustice as something that causes ongoing harm to an individual or group that is targeted in part because of who that group is (for example, their culture, ideology, political affiliation, religion, nationality, abilities, race or sexual orientation... but it could be other groups too, especially groups that are vulnerable in some way). We also think of injustices as something caused by other humans -- whether or not they intend to do harm. And usually, overcoming an injustice helps the targeted group to overcome an obstacle and realize a greater potential.
My question is about who you think is impacted by the injustice you've identified? If it is everyone in society, then it might not be an injustice -- even if it is still a PROBLEM facing us. If you think it is hurting certain groups of people more than others then it may be an injustice, but you would need to alter the language and focus to work specifically on how to change the injustice for that group of people.
One thought that I had is that what you are describing as the injustice: "Lack of emotional support and self-esteem" might actually be a Root Cause of a different injustice that is happening in society. One thing that you can do to think through that possibility is consider what the consequences of that lack of emotional support and self esteem are -- and about whether any of those consequences are in fact injustices. If so, you might be able to re-work your project to focus on that injustice that you found, and then put "lack of emotional support and self-esteem" as the root cause you are working on.

The problem & solution tree tool could be very powerful for helping you think through what the injustice is also --
if you start the problem tree with the injustice you've currently identified --
then when you write in the "leaves" of the tree (which are the CONSEQUENCES of the "injustice" you might realize that one of those consequences is an actual injustice that impacts some people more than others -- if you identify a new injustice you can start over with that listed in the middle of the tree and think of its root causes. (I think this will make more sense when you start doing the tree!)
This tool will help you research the injustice you identify by talking to others -- this can give you helpful info for the problem and solution tree!:

I want to give you feedback on your insight:

I also admire the deep sense of compassion that you are bringing across to shape your project. I think your insight is clear and the solution is easy to understand. I think something that could make your insight even better is trying to explain through the insight, how our solution is also addressing the fact that you have identified the current way in how technology is used as one cause of the lack of awareness. Could that be included as part of your solution?
The only other potential recommendation I had was to think about ways that you can measure if you are achieving your goals. We have a tool that can help you do that: https://www.peacefirst.org/resource/plan-1-smart-goals
For example, if your school has 300 students, you may want to have as a goal reaching 100 students by the end of April. Another important aspect is also to add a measure to indicate if your actions are also creating the desired change. For example, from 100 students, you may want at least 80% of them to express that they have increased their awareness of this issue that you are trying to address.
