A Peacemaking Project by Olivia R.

What is the injustice we are solving?

Did you know that it is estimated that globally we are using over 1-Billion single use plastic straws every single day... or even worse, that 50% of that usage comes from the US alone? That means we are using over 500-million plastic straws in America every single day and none get recycled. You could fill up over 127 school busses each day with the straws we us here in America. That is just so sad. We created our global OneLessStraw Pledge Campaigns in an effort to get people to pledge to go strawless for 30-days so we can get everyone to realize our impact on our environment and to start making a difference by saying no to single use straws. Please help us by sharing the campaign with everyone you know. Together, we can make a difference ;-)

Global Impact of OneLessStraw Campaign

Olivia R. 21 December 2017 10:28 Check out the global reach our campaign has achieved in our first full year of the campaign.  We need your help to get the initiative spread even further.  Please consider sharing this with everyone you know... together we can make a difference.

Hi Olivia,

We wanted to let you know that we are extending the deadline for active projects to apply for a Mini-Grant during this Peace First Challenge to April 15th. You can apply for a mini-grant anytime, but meeting the Challenge deadlines will make you eligible for additional opportunities.

If you do not require a mini-grant to complete your project, you can remain eligible for the Accelerator by completing your project and Reflection before the May 31st deadline! If you submit your project plan by April 15th, we'll be sure to provide you with feedback by April 21st to support you with carrying out the plan.

If you are still in early stages of planning, you are also welcome to apply for a mini-grant at a later date -- although you may not be eligible for some of our larger opportunities, the opportunity for funding and support is always there.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and if we can help in any way!

Hi Olivia -- thanks for sharing this project with us. Really inspired by your dedication to making the world a better, greener place.

Have you reached out to other young people doing environmental projects on the site? You should definitely ask them to sign the pledge -- I'm sure they'd be excited.

We could also help you think about how to build a team of young people and mobilize them to get a lot of commitments to avoid plastic straw waste. Some of our tools can help:

Anything else we can do to help?

Yes, we need everyone to sign our on line pledge and share the School Pledge with their schools and the Business Pledge with their favorite restaurant. Here are the links:
