Paradise Care

A Peacemaking Project by Noel M.

What is the injustice we are solving?

The project solves the problem of improper disposal of garbage by removing the garbage and recycling the plastic bottles to make a usable product called the UsaveR. After the recent flood rains in Montego Bay it was discovered by the Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management(ODPEM) that the cause was improper disposal of garbage especially plastic bottles. We are therefore seeking to establish a Not for Profit business- Paradise Care - which will assist in reducing this problem by being a good corporate citizen and contribute to the sustainable development of our island of Jamaica. The mission of our venture can be broken down into four parts: 1. Have beach clean ups and partner with schools to get bottles. Other recyclable materials will be sent to recycling companies whom we will partner with. Schools that participate in our project will be rewarded with plant and vegetable seeds for their gardens. 2. Recycle the bottles to create our usable product- UsaveR. This is a rechargeable lamp which is also able to charge small devices such as tablets and phones. 3. Use the proceeds from the sale of the lamps to provide recycling solutions, such as bins, for the city of Montego Bay and eventually the entire island. The aim is to partner with varying government organizations to promote a culture of recycling on the island. 4. Have partnerships with Technical Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions where students will be taught how to make the lamps and other products from the recycled materials and contribute to the sustainability.
