A peak to the Balkans. A hike for Climate and Peace awareness.

A Peacemaking Project by Jorge A.

What is the injustice we are solving?

By 2050, migrations due to Climate Change can be up to 140 million displacements. We find a link in issues between the climate and the human rights. It’s our commitment to share information to society and show that there is a future that involves nature, peace and ourselves. Knowing the story of the Balkans (Montenegro-Albania-Kosovo) and the recent EU-Balkan 2018 Summit we are bringing light to the need of peacebuilding.

Our Compassionate Solution:

To solve this injustice of environmental emmigrations
we will address climate change education
by showing that it can be possible through our own daily actions and experiences

Our Project Plan:

  • Bring awareness about climate and peace
  • human rights education approach
  • Change the life of at least 1 person. It will be a multiplier.

We will increase my / our compassion by...

Showing that we can change our society, even if we are one individual. With our acts and work, we can bring light to ourselves and others. Bringing the stories, learning and building a community that interacts with them, and brings more people into it.

How will you show courage?

By doing. By showing. By inspiring and being inspired. By taking the chances and telling the story. Hiking the Balkans to demonstrate that we can reach our goals and bring peace in a conflict zone.

How will you collaborate with others?

By talking, interacting, by creating together the right tools to show to others and collaborate with the community.

How will you know you are moving in the right direction? (What are specific ways you can measure your impact?)

If we can change one person, we can know that it is working. By looking to the online and offline community (if it grows) and making meetings during the next months to see how they are doing with other projects.

Key Steps

  • Go to the Balkans hike and brainstorm with the group
  • Come back and start doing conferences and public talks
  • Create a youth group to build up projects that will focus on the community
  • Interact/ Meet once per month
  • Follow up and continue at an european level

Hi Jorge, This is Bahare, your new mentor. I really encourage and appreciate you for starting this project because this world needs young people like you to change it and aware other people,. As Amani said, it is better to choose one goal and then think a lot about it. Take a look at resources it the website. If you have any question about the forms, let me know.

Welcome to Peace First, Jorge! Thanks for sharing with us your project. The environment and human rights are very important issues. However, we usually encourage the young people to be particular about the issue that you want to solve in their community. So, I would advise you to choose one specific issue.

Then, please make sure to re-write your compassionate insight and make it as clear as you can, so that other Peace First members would understand it better! You can use the compassionate tool here: https://www.peacefirst.org/resource/understand-4-compassionate-insight

Also, it would be great to use the problem and solution tree to discover the root causes and consequences of your chosen issue and it will guide you to more solutions. Here is the tool on how to do that: https://www.peacefirst.org/resource/understand-2-problem-and-solution-trees

Please let us know how can we help you
