TransChat is the name of my project it is a mobile texting application that allows people with different languages chat with each other and automatically get the messages translated to the language they want to receive it in.

A Peacemaking Project by Oluwapelumi A.

What is the injustice we are solving?

The injustice my project would solve is that of racism by making people see the world from different views and not to look down on any race or see their own race as been better than the other but rather to see everyone has equal and not better than each other

Hi Oluwapelume!

It's amazing to see that you are trying to break down language barriers using technology! I particularly love the vision behind your app, and how it will serve as a medium to exchange diverse ideas and worldviews that one might not otherwise encounter. I think it raises some interesting questions about translation as well. How will your app tackle the challenge of translating language-specific idioms and expressions, words with multiple meanings, and ideas and concepts that don't have a direct corollary in another language? How much of the original meaning will the translation preserve? These are all some questions to help guide you in the process of fleshing out this project.

I'd also love to know more about the planning process behind the app. Are you planning to build it yourself, or do you have a team of coders you are working with?

We encourage you to do some reading and learning on your own. There are lots of resources out there--here are a few that touch on the topic and connotations of translation and linguistic barriers:

I hope that these resources are useful! Please let me know if you have any questions or need support in thinking about your next steps. :) I'm excited to support you however possible, and to watch this project grow!

Best,
Akila
