Ziweto-GRIP Project: Transforming Chandawira village through pig farming
A Peacemaking Project by Isaac C.
What is the injustice we are solving?
Chandawira village is one of the poorest villages in the district of Dowa, Malawi with almost every resident living in poverty. This village is isolated from major developments and residents rely on their own little farm produce to barely have enough to eat. Our project seeks to address issues of malnutrition but also help families generate income in hope to educate the young population. We started raising pigs and we intend to give out fully grown male and female pigs to poor families one at a time to kick start pig farming. We will be getting back from them young offspring which we will raise and give to another family once they reproduce. We will continue this chain until the whole village is catered for. This will ensure that each family has enough to eat but also to sell and generate income. We hope the income will be used to send kids to school. We are hopeful that we will at least lessen the poverty levels in the village, increase food supply, generate income that will help educate young brilliant minds who are in need of school opportunities. We currently have built a small structure and have seen positive results as far as breeding the pigs. We hope to expand and built more modern structures and help reduce poverty.

I noticed that you raised three issues that you are interested in: malnutrition, educate the younger population, and poverty. These are important issues, however, It would be great if you can spend some time thinking about the exact issue you want to solve!
I understand that the three issues are related to each other, but it will be helpful to write your compassionate insight and make sure it's clear, so that other Peace First members would understand it better! You can use the compassionate tool here: https://www.peacefirst.org/resource/understand-4-compassionate-insight, which will help you in writing your compassionate insight.
Another question, please: do you want to work with young people in your community find solutions to these pressing issues? or you are already working with young people.
Please let us know how can we help.
