NEGES HEDDWCH AC EWYLLLS DA IEUENCTID CYMRU / PEACE AND GOODWILL MESSAGE FROM THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF WALES

What is the injustice we are solving?
Ers 1922 mae’r broses o anfon neges ar ran bobl ifanc Cymru i bobl ifanc yng ngweddill y byd wedi bod yn ysgogi ac yn ysbrydoli gweithgarwch dyngarol a rhyngwladol. Rhoddwyd y cyfrifoldeb ym mhumdegau’r ganrif ddiwethaf i Urdd Gobaith Cymru gyhoeddi Neges Heddwch ac Ewyllys Da yn flynyddol ar ddydd Ewyllys Dda, 18 Mai, sef dyddiad y gynhadledd heddwch gyntaf yn yr Hâg yn 1899. Ers hynny mae grwpiau o bobl ifanc wedi derbyn y cyfrifoldeb i greu’r neges, ei pherfformio ynghyd â’i chyfieithu i nifer fawr o ieithoedd i’w dosbarthu i bobl ifanc y byd.

This year the Urdd's Message of Peace and Goodwill was 95 years old, and since 1922 the message has been an inspiration for the humanitarian and international work of the Urdd. The first message was sent by Reverend Gwilym Davies from Cwm Rhymni. He was a pacifist and was prominent in the establishing of the Welsh Union of the League of Nations and UNESCO. He believed in uniting the children of the world. Sir Ifan decided to support the campaign so that ignorance and prejudice could be abolished. The message was broadcast for the first time on the BBC World Service in 1924 and today it appears in many different languages on the internet and reaches all corners of the world. In the 1950's the Urdd was given the responsibility of announcing the Message of Peace and Goodwill on 18 May, which was the date of the first peace conference in the Hague in 1899.

Hi Catrin! Thanks so much for posting this project. This is such an important idea! I'd love to know more about how you're hoping to solve an injustice, and how it relates to Urdd's Message of Peace and Goodwill. Let me know what you think. :)
