Immigration has been all the talk recently due to the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance policy” and the separation of nearly 3,000 migrant children from their families. A ruling by a federal judge has ordered all the children to be reunited with their families by the end of July, and all children under the age of 5 to be reunited by today.
From coast to coast, hundreds of thousands of people joined rallies to protest this great injustice. Organizers of the protests said they were not only protesting the separation of families but also Trump policies that criminalized migrants and abandoned dreamers.
“When we have children in cages crying for their mommies and daddies, we know we are better than this. When we know those children will suffer lifelong trauma, and that this is not reflective of a civil society, we know we are better than this.” ~ Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) via LA Times
Senator Elizabeth Warren from Massachusetts recently visited the border and several centers involved in processing and detaining migrants. She wrote an excellent, eye-opening facebook post about her experience that is worth the read.
