Heineken ad called out by Chance the Rapper as “terribly racist”
Heineken recently launched and pulled an ad for their light beer that many thought to be rather racist. Most notably, Chance the Rapper called out the brand on Twitter and accused companies of purposefully making racist ads to get more publicity.
The commercial in question features a slogan of “Sometimes lighter is better” after a light beer slides past three black people and ultimately arrives at a lighter-skinned woman. The ad has been removed by Heineken and they have since apologized, yet this begs the question as to whether companies have been tone-deaf (like H&M's "coolest monkey" sweatshirt) or they set out to make controversy in the belief that ‘all press is good press.’
