Obamacare is in more danger than ever. Previously, Congress was trying to repeal Obamacare and replace it with their own health care act. Now, Senate leadership has announced they will vote on simply repealing Obamacare without any bill to replace it for the time being.
According to FamilesUSA, repealing Obamacare without a replacement would result in the following:
- More than 32 million Americans would lose their health insurance.
- Tax credits provided to help people afford private insurance would be repealed, leaving people with no financial assistance to buy coverage.
- Out-of-pocket costs and premiums would spike for millions.
- Wealthy and large corporations would get massive tax cuts.
The elimination of Obamacare would hurt older Americans and low-income families the most by cutting funds to Medicaid. It also leaves limited to no options regarding affordable health care for part-time workers, freelancers, and self-employed Americans. In many developed countries, access to health care is a right. The injustice that is playing out here in America is making health care a privilege, only available to those who can afford it.
“The time has come to put repeal aside, take Medicaid cuts off the table, and develop bipartisan, pragmatic solutions that improve care, enhance coverage, and promote the genuine affordability America’s families need and deserve.” ~ Families USA press release
